Rhododendron x obtusum

Rhododendron x obtusum Planch

Family: Ericaceae

Name justification:
The name of the genus stems from Greek; it was Latinized later, and was used to designate oleanders, roses and probably a species from this genus, which has grown wild around the Black Sea. In this language it means literally “arboreal rosebush”.
Obtusum, obtuse, because of its leaf shape, which are rounded at the end.

Description: Shrub
Leaf: Evergreen Broad Entire

Origin and distribution:
Of hybrid origin. It probably was originated from the cross of Rhododendron kaenpferi and Rhododendron kiusianum or may be a cross of different species.

Location in the garden:
It is the most frequent rhododendron. As it is a small shrub, it is very common among the eucalyptus of the 'Ferradura' walk and along the threshing floor of the walk parallel to the Canary palms walk, the Altamira Counts Fountain and the Monument to 'A Leiteira'. It can be found together with Rhododendron ponticum and it is also present next to the Church of El Pilar and nearby the playpen.
