He was a patriarch of the Indies and ambassador for the King Charles III of Spain. He founded a charity institution which remains from its original funding. The monument was planned by Francisco Vidal Castro (1893) and erected by 'Figueroists', in 1898. Fundición de Maseira y Campins, Barcelona. It was initially located in front of the School of San Clemente.
