Name justification:
The name of the genus is composed by two terms: the first one is liquidus, which means liquid, and the second one is ambar, or amber. This name is justified by the fragrant resin produced by certain species.
Styraciflua means that it expels styrax, a plant gum.

Origin and distribution:
It comes from the East of the United States of America, from New York to Florida and Texas, and Central and Southern Mexico and Guatemala. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant, of rapid growth.
