The Museum of Pilgrimages is celebrating the 5th anniversary of its new exhibition site in Praza das Praterías with a series of activities over the weekend.
Friday 6 | 19.00
Concert: Pèlegrinage 1726
Guillaume Manier's journey to Compostela
Fernando Reyes (theorbo)
Mercedes Hernández (soprano)
The concert brings a new tenant to the MPDS: the tailor Ricardo Guillaume Manier. The audience will be introduced to his story, from 1726, by the tiorba, the instrument of Baroque France, and a few other "instruments". Evocative and descriptive pieces will follow the itinerary of the journey written by the pilgrim himself, who followed the Great Song of Santiago, the same one that had guided thousands of French-speaking pilgrims along the Camino de Santiago from ancient times to the beginning of the 20th century.
Saturday 7 | 19.00
Concert: grupo 1500
The programme offered by the group covers some of the main European pilgrimage sites from the late Middle Ages to the early 18th century.
Sunday 8th [online activity]
MDPS in its urban context
Ángel Panero, architect of the Santiago Consortium, will guide you on a pleasant journey through the exterior and interior of the Museum, putting the architecture of the building in context with the immediate urban environment. Thus, it will reveal interesting historical and technical aspects related to the process of its initial construction as the Bank of Spain's headquarters in Santiago and subsequent remodelling to become the current exhibition venue of the Pilgrimage Museum and Santiago by the architect Manuel Gallego Jorreto.
The video will be available on the Museum's social networks.
