Medida x Medida (Measure for Measure), one of Shakespeare's most complex and richest pieces, finally reaches the Galician language by Quico Cadaval, a great friend of the bard from Avon. The story takes place in a surrealistic Vienna invented by Shakespeare. The president, Duke Vincenzo, goes underground and orders the law to be strictly applied against immoral behaviour. The law falls equally on the sex trade and on hedonistic youth. A young man from a good family is condemned to death. This forces Isabella, his sister, a nun, to leave the convent for three days in an attempt to save the life of her sinful brother.
A world of vice, perversity and corruption will attempt to stain her virginal whiteness. Palaces, prisons and suburbs will be the labyrinth that Isabella travels along. Everything is observed from the shadows by a Duke Vincenzo, unrecognizable under the habit of a mendicant friar.
