Like other times, we start from a very local history. This time it is a story that has been transmitted orally from generation to generation among the people of the Verín region (Ourense, Galicia), during the last ninety years: the story of the curve in which the engineer José Fernández España was killed in 1927, when he was working on the railway access route to Galicia between Puebla de Sanabria and Ourense.
Curva España is about an apparently unsolved crime, a violent death that provokes suspicions and questions about the perpetrators, motivations and consequences. Starting from the existence of different versions of the case, we have sewn a piece that draws from the police genre, ironizes about the documentary format combining theater and live cinema and works as an allegory of the construction of the Spanish nation state as if it were the promise of a train that never came. Because to this remote and border area Spain hardly arrived in the form of a myth, and the myth speaks of his death in a curve.
