The Santa Irene hostel is located at km 16.3 in the 30th stage of the French Road. Partially renovated in 2012, it is located at the foot of the N-547 road (Santiago-Lugo), 2.8 km from the nearest village called O Pedrouzo.
It has a sleeping capacity of 36 in bunk beds and 4 beds (2 for persons with reduced mobility and another 2 for those accompanying them). It is open all year with an admission time from 1 to 10 pm; guests must leave the hostel before 8 am. Pilgrims have to show their official pass (no bookings allowed) and its costs € 6.
It has a washing area, drying place, washing machine (€ 4.40), dryer (€ 1), lockers, mobile phone signal, plugs for charging batteries, enclosed area for bikes and horse stables (3).
In a bucolic setting, Santa Irene is known due to the chapel of San Pedro (consecrated in the 17th c.), the healing waters of its fountain and the adjacent “carballeira” (oak grove). Its local holiday is held on June 29.
O Pedrouzo is 3 km away; this small town offers all the basic services required by pilgrims: ATMs, medical care, pharmacy, supermarkets, groceries, and bars and restaurants.
