Santiago has an amazing total of 30 historic churches. They were erected down through the centuries by the Archbishopric or the city’s many religious orders. They also reflect the devotion of religous brotherhoods or wealthy Compostela residents.
Their number and importance reflect Santiago de Compostela’s prominence as one of Europe’s main religious destinations from the Middle Ages to the present.
