Near the city centre, two large conventional shopping centres bring the Santiago shopping experience to an end. These are called the 'Compostela' Shopping Centre, which consists of Hipercor and Tiendas El Corte Inglés, a chain famous throughout Spain, and the 'Área Central' Shopping Centre, a large area within the As Fontiñas neighbourhood, where there are all kinds of shops in a very peculiar architectural space combining apartments and business establishments. Cinemas, cafeterias, restaurants, a spa and a children's playground add to this shopping centre's attractions

Although distances are short in Santiago, if you want to use public transport to visit these two shopping centres, you have the number 6 bus for the 'Compostela' shopping centre and the number 11 for 'Area Central', which depart from the centrally located Plaza de Galicia every half hour. The Radio Taxi service -tel: 981 56 92 92- is an alternative means of transport for visiting them from any part of the city; after you finish your shopping, you can then go to the permanent taxi ranks outside both shopping centres' main entrances
