Santiago de Compostela, on the road to your professional meeting

Santiago de Compostela has a unique history as a welcoming city and an enviable record of more than a thousand years' experience in receiving visitors. This is due to its status as the final destination of the Way of St. James and a holy city housing the relics of one of Christendom's apostles.

As a capital city, metropolitan see and university town, Compostela's privileged monumental settings have been enriched by a busy programme of educational, cultural and research activities. All of this benefits its inhabitants, its students and, increasingly, the professional visitors that choose it as the venue of their meetings and congresses. New communication links, which boost its status as Galicia 's geographical centre; the existence of an international airport with direct flights to the main Spanish and European cities; a network of quality hotels and specialised congress infrastructures combine to form a network capable of handling close to 200 professional events each year.

The desire to continue promoting this congress activity –which, with an annual increase of 25% compared to 2003, had a turnover of more than 30 million euros in 2004- justifies the efforts that the city's public and private tourism representatives have channelled into the Santiago de Compostela Convention Bureau (SCCB). In this regard, the web we are now presenting is aimed at establishing a solid link between professional congress organisers and the services provided by Galicia 's capital city.
