The Mining Museum is found in the geographical centre of Galicia, near the main population centres of Galicia and north Portugal. It is located in the parish of Fontao, within the Mining Settlement of Fontao.
The installations are adapted for the disabled and feature an extensive garden that will house the Exterior Museum, with large exhibits that cannot be displayed inside the buildings.
The Fontao Mining Museum is accessed via the provincial Merza-Lalín road and has an entrance to the Ourense-Santiago motorway. The existence of traditional festivals and important gastronomic events, as well as the nearness of Santiago de Compostela and the area’s natural and scenic attractions, make it the ideal place for spending several days.
In the surroundings of the museum there is a wide range of accommodation, including country cottages and a famous spa hotel: Baños da Brea.
