Pazo de Santa Cruz de Ribadulla

Pazo de Santa Cruz de Ribadulla, declared a Property of Cultural Interest, is sheltered by Pico Sacro, on the Coruña riverbank of the River Ulla (Vedra).

Its history goes back to the 16th century, when the canon of Santiago Cathedral, Juan Ibáñez de Mondragón, acquired the properties that would become Pazo de Santa Cruz, known at that time as “Torre y Casar de Ortigueira.” The canon and later on his nephew the cardinal (status of Santiago cathedral), Juan de Mondragón, extended the property. They built the chapel, repaired the buildings and designed the skeleton of what is now the possession with olive plantations and vineyards. The fountains, ponds, cascade, house, chapel, “hórreo” (stone granary) and other buildings are some of its attractions. Inside there is Galicia’s Renaissance garden par excellence, where the camellias stand out.
