Santiago de Compostela es este fin de semana un túnel del tiempo hacia la Edad Media. Su mercado medieval regresa para llenar las plazas monumentales de duendes, músicos ambulantes, nobles, encantadores de serpientes, artesanos, bufones y vendedores de milagros. Las actividades, que se suceden a todas horas entre las 11 y las 22 horas hasta el domingo, incluyen la caza del dragón, bailes llegados de lejanos países y espectáculos de magia, música y fuego.

Si el viernes el Auditorio ofrece la segunda y última función de El Barbero de Sevilla con las entradas agotadas, el sábado aún hay oportunidad de subir a la Ciudad de la Cultura y disfrutar del recital lírico del ciclo 'Espazos Sonoros'. El sábado niños y mayores estarán de enhorabuena por el comienzo del Festival Internacional de Títeres 'Galicreques', que en su edición de 2011 convoca a numerosas compañías españolas y latinoamericanas para shows al aire libre y bajo techo, empezando con una doble tanda de El Patito Feo.

Más de 30 exposiciones de las más diversas temáticas nos esperan también en las galerías y museos para un espectacular primer fin de semana de octubre.

September will be a magnificent month in Santiago. While the nights and shadows grow ever longer, the city adds a soundtrack to the days to make the most of the last hours of summer. The calendar presents a combination of the first Rock in Way festival -a new pilgrimage “destination” at the end of the Way of St. James, in this case a musical one: two days of pop-rock featuring The Offspring, The Specials, The Toy Dolls, Rinôçérôse or Siniestro Total- and the traditional Lied Concerts, now in their twelfth year. Another pleasant and long-awaited event is the beginning of the Auditorio de Galicia’s regular season, which the Real Filharmonía de Galicia orchestra will begin with a "Barbiere di Siviglia" that promises to be memorable. And the 800th anniversary of the Cathedral’s consecration features an international festival called “Músicas a Itinerancia,” devoted to the Galician troubadours that travelled all over Europe.

If we add theatre premieres, In Flames and Mr. Big's concerts in the Sala Capitol, the City of Culture’s numerous initiatives and the opportunity of enjoying the last days of summer sunshine and cool evenings in Compostela’s appealing pavement cafés, then Santiago and September become the summer’s final and definitive pleasure.

Santiago de Compostela will celebrate the 800th anniversary of the dedication of its Cathedral. To mark April 21, 1211, when the king of León, Alfonso IX, inaugurated the grand Romanesque basilica, Consorcio de Santiago is programming festivals, concerts, exhibitions and much more all through the year.
