History
The brotherhood was founded by aristocratic gentlemen in 1731. It was originally based in the church of San Cayetano, with the primary objective of providing comfort, assistance, company and funerals for those sentenced to death.
It was given a large part of the Pastoriza Cemetery in order to fulfill its objectives.
In 1738 the brotherhood joined that of “San Juan Degollado de la Nación Florentina” in Rome, making use of this “alliance” to receive a bull of privilege.
In 1742 the brotherhood moved to the chapel of San Miguel, which was sold in 1752 to the brotherhood along with its tombs and sacristy.
The brotherhood has held the funeral for a total of thirty-two convicts sentenced to death since its establishment.
