While St. John’s Bonfire Night is taking place, Santiago hosts a festival, for the thirth year in a row, with a traditional market and a program  with a wide range of activities and workshops to highlight the Galician traditions of this time of year, marked by the summer solstice.

PROGRAMME 
All activities will be held in PRAZA DE MAZARELOS unless indicated otherwise.

FRIDAY, JUNE 21
6 pm to 12 am. San Xoán Festival in Praza de Mazarelos: Artisan market, 'Espazo Palleiro' for children and 'Área Asardiñada' food zone. Admission free.

6 pm to 8 pm.  Workshop for paiting decorative octopus plates. Free activity, for all ages.

7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Traditional dances | Individual dance: 'jota' with Gabi Reboredo and Martiño Malleiro. Live music. Free activity for all ages.

8 pm to 9:30pm. Workshop to make magical wicker brooms. Free activity for all ages.

10 pm Concert by 'Tres Pesos'.

11pm Dj session by 'Jimmy Terribile'.

12 am.  Closing of festival area.


SATURDAY, JUNE 22 

1 pm to 01 am. San Xoán Festival in praza de Mazarelos: Artisan market (closes at midday from 3 pm to 5 pm), 'Espazo Palleiro' for children and 'Área Asardiñada' food zone. 

1 pm to 3pm. Traditional music ('Os Enxebres de Cacheiras') and painting workshop of decorative octopus dishes. Free activity, aimed at all audiences.

5 pm to 6 pm. Workshop for paiting decorative octopus plates. Free activity, for all ages.

5 pm to 6:30 pm. Itinerary and Workshop to identify San Xoán Herbs. Free activity for all the audiences. Departure from Ponte de Sar, finishing in Praza de Mazarelos. Capacity for 25 people. You must register beforehand by emailing infosanxoansantiago@gmail.com indicating the day you want toparticipate in the route (Saturday the 22nd or Sunday the 23rd) until midnight on Thursdaythe 20th, and on Friday the 21st in Mazarelos during Festival hours.

6 pm to 7:30 pm. Percussion and traditional singing workshop. Free activity for all ages.

7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Traditional dance workshop | Individual dance: 'muiñeira' with Rebeca Tallón and Andrea Porto. Live music. Free activity for all ages.

9:30 pm. San Xoán stories by Celso F. Sanmartín

10 pm. Departure from Alameda Park of Queen Alda and her entourage to take the “Sacred Fire from Pico Sacro” to Praza de Mazarelos. Symbolic act that revives the pagan celebration of the summer solstice by obtaining fire directly from the sun, on the Pico Sacro hill, using natural means and taking it to Santiago.

10:30 pm. Arrival in Praza de Mazarelos of Queen Alda and her entourage with the “Sacred Fire” from Pico Sacro. The beacon with the “Sacred Fire from Pico Sacro” will be kept in Praza de Mazarelos for those who want to use it to light their San Xoán bonfires.

11 pm. Concert by 'Tres Pesos'.

12 am Dj session by 'Bigote Mix'.

01 am.  Closing of festival area.

 

SUNDAY, JUNE 23 (EVE AND NIGHT OF SAN XOÁN)

 
1 pm to 12 am. San Xoán Festival in Praza de Mazarelos: Artisan market (closes at midday from 15h to 17h), 'Espazo Palleiro' for children, 'Área Asardiñada' food zone and distribution of magical San Xoán water and herbs (free bottles available at Information Stand). Admission free. Praza de Mazarelos.

1 pm to 3pm. Traditional music ('Os Enxebres de Cacheiras') and painting workshop of decorative octopus dishes. Free activity, aimed at all audiences.

5 pm to 01 am. Ride in the “Cacharelo” Train around the city neighbourhoods celebrating the San Xoán Festival. Departures at the top of the hour from CGAC (Galician Contemporary Art Centre) with stops in Avda. de Castelao, Avda. do Burgo das Nacións, Carballeira de San Lourenzo and Avda. de Xoán Carlos I. Free activity for all ages. From 17h to 20h, priority for children and those accompanying them.

5 pm to 6 pm. Workshop for paiting decorative octopus plates. Free activity, for all ages.

5 pm to 6:30 pm. Itinerary and Workshop to identify San Xoán Herbs. Free activity for all the audiences. Departure from Ponte de Sar, finishing in Praza de Mazarelos. Capacity for 25 people. 10 pm to 11 pm. Concert by 'Fanfarria Taquikardia'

11 pm to 11:15 pm approx. Recital of incantation with tasting of “queimada” (flamed eau-de-vie). Free activity.

12 am Dj session by 'Um sincero, electroverbeneo'.

End of San Xoán Festival in Praza de Mazarelos and last ride on the “Cacharelo” Train departing from the CGAC (Galician Contemporary Art Centre) at 00h, with stops in Avda. de Castelao, Avda. do Burgo das Nacións, Carballeira de San Lourenzo and Avda. de Xoán Carlos I, returning to the same location at 01h approx.

12:30 am. Jumping over bonfires to ward off evils spirits during the magical night of San Xoán!

01 am.  Closing of festival area.

'Artesania Sonia Ares': jewelry in silver, glass and enamel.

'Susi Gesto': orive (live demonstrations of this artisan discipline will be carried out).
