San Caralampio is held in Melide on the second Sunday in September. This festival, also known as the Festival of the Drunks, has Bacchus reminiscences and is devoted to wine.
Melide’s historic district fills with young people, who gather in groups of friends dressed in personalised T-shirts and with the festival’s scarf. From early morning, they enjoy the entertainment featuring street bands in the company of wine, both drinking it and throwing it at each other. At lunchtime, those in attendance are served a dish of peppers, cachelos (boiled potatoes) and sardines in Praza das Coles.
