23.6.2009
Santiago Tourism, as part of its joint promotion activities with the Spanish Group of World Heritage Cities, will be in Japan on June 23 and 24. The objective is to promote Spanish cities as language tourism destinations. The main event will be a presentation in Tokyo´s Cervantes Institute on Wednesday, June 24. Meetings will also be held with language tourism agents, university representatives, tour operators and journalists to promote the city. Santiago Tourism will also use the trip to officially open the section that Santiago has in Japan’s Tourist Information Centre, located in Tokyo´s Central Train Station. Santiago´s presence is due to special collaboration between the cities of Tanabe and Santiago de Compostela for the joint promotion of the Way of St. James and the Kumano Road, which are the only pilgrimage routes that have been declared World Heritage by Unesco. Furthermore, July 5 will see the opening of an interpretation centre of both routes in Kumano Kongu Taisha, the main point of reference on the Japanese road, where Santiago will be present with different information panels about the Way and the city.
