Church of Santa María Salomé
Rúa Nova, 31
981 584 168

12th c. Baroque

Halfway along Rúa Nova we can see this church, one of the many commissioned by Archbishop Xelmírez in the 12th century. All that remains of the original building are the front and a few other details. It is dedicated to the Apostle’s mother. Above the keystone of the triple archivolt there is a seated image of the Virgin from the 13th century and, on both sides, the statues of the Virgin and the angel of the Annunciation, which belong to a set of 15th-century sculptures. The baroque tower, built in the 18th century, is a clear example of the popularity attained by the model of the Church of San Fiz de Solovio’s belfry. Some baroque sculptures from the Compostela school stand out inside.
